Ghoul-Huntress Rhea

"Another shitty day of Ghoul-hunting eh ?
Who knows maybe i'll bring in a lich's head and make myself a small fortune today..
Fuckin hell, I could really go for some bourbon."

--

The Fractured Plains were named after the cataclysm that occurred when the ill-omened “New-Moon” came crashing down destroying the peaceful plains of Landen. Rhea recalled watching the huge orange-tainted boulder that started orbiting a few years past when she was a teenager.

A few weeks after the crash, the fear faded out leaving room for curiosity. The first adventurous spirits couldn’t help but go investigate, enticed by the amber glows emanating from the dense fog that surrounded the point of impact. The first waves of explorers were met with horribly crooked humanoids with corrupt grey skin and unbelievable speed. A lot of adventurers were killed but the greed of humans beats their fears tenfold. After a number of bloody expeditions, their first reward presented itself. They found a shard of stone shining like steel yet burning from inside with an ethereal orange light.

The discovery of the Amber-Silver precipitated the city of Lendré in an economic frenzy, bringing loads of merchants, nobles and adventurers. Some looking for riches, some for glory and some others for the supposed powers that were granted from being exposed to the stones despite the dreadful creatures roaming the pits.

After a few years of trading tensions, jealousy led to rivalry and it wasn’t long until clans formed. Former neighbors became rivals in trying to control the wealth inside the fortified provincial town.
In times desperate, violence is always the first answer for humans. Thus, Lendré plunged into a bloody civil war that wiped half of the city.
The Ghouls who had stayed quiet in the depth of their chasms, were drawn by the visceral emanations. They came and finished the other half.

As if that wasn’t enough, a plague settled in. That last calamity was the final straw for the Saint King. His holiness erected a giant palisade, sealing the fate of the remaining Lendréites.
Shut from the world and led by seasoned survivors a group of daredevils formed up to fight to allow the survivors to keep the little dignity they had left. They called themselves, the Hunters. Rhea enrolled immediately.

After they managed to clear the biggest districts of the city. A group of doctors now turned alchemists formed under the name: the Alambra. They swore to find a cure to the plague and so far their research has led to a daring but inaccessible cure: Bathing in Ghoul’s fresh blood. Which requires.. you guessed it, live Ghoul specimens.

Rhea is one of the first hunters to have set foot in the ruined telluric kingdom created by the New-Moon impact. Armed with her roped javelin, she wanders the deep pits and treacherous ravines, trying to uncover the mystery of the undead’s provenance while capturing as many of the monsters as she can, alive but not unharmed.

In this cursed city, what resembles the local economy is based on the impact an individual has on the survival of the society; most townsfolk would say Rhea has a place of choice in it.
